MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure intended for use on facial acne scarring and wrinkles. The procedure creates many microscopic punctures into the skin. s these punctures heal, the remodeling process works to improve the appearance of scarring and wrinkles.

Unwanted acne scarring or other scarring, wrinkles noticed when face is resting (not making expressions). 

• Avoid sun exposure 48 hours prior to treatment 
• Avoid topical retinol 48 hours prior to treatment 
• Clean face well before coming in for your treatment and leave off any makeup or creams if able to, as they will be removed at treatment. 

• numbing cream will be applied to your treatment area
• after numbing cream has time to activate your face will be cleaned and procedure will begin, procedure takes between 30- 45 minutes depending on how many areas you are wanting treated. 
• after treatment face will be cleaned and aftercare cream will be applied and you will be sent home with this cream to apply to your face over the next few days. 
• although numbing cream is applied you will feel some minor discomfort during the treatment. 

• there may be dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning. These conditions should resolve over time without any further complications. 
• You may experience reactivation of cold sores, pigment changes that include lighter or darker skin in the treatment area that resolves over time, or no change in your acne scar. 
• Avoid picking or scratching skin, do not use any harsh creams until face is healed.
• Wash and pat dry for 2 days and apply the aftercare cream given. 
• SPF is always recommended post treatment. You should avoid sun exposure for 3 days. 
• Do not exercise, take hot showers or use hot tub or sauna for 72 hours. Exposure to sun and sweating can lead to itching, burning, stinging and tingling, scalding/dryness, redness, swelling and tenderness/discomfort. 

You should discuss your goals with the Aesthetician. It s recommended to schedule the next appointment at lest 4 weeks. 3 treatments are usually recommended, depending on your areas of concern this can vary. 

What are the common side effects

• dryness 1-6 days
• rough skin 1-2 days
• tightness 1-2 days
• redoes, itching, peeling, discomfort and tenderness 1-3 days 
• burning 1-3 days

What are other possible adverse events? 

• patients may experience reactivation of HSV (cold sores), pigment changes that include lighter or darker skin in the treatment areas that resolves over time. 

• It is recommended to avoid other facial aesthetic treatments for one month following your microneedling treatment. 
• Your medical history will be reviewed with a MD/PA/NA prior to your treatment. Please include all medical information as this is pertinent to successful treatment. 
• If you have a history of the following conditions or have taken the following medications, please notify Aesthetician / Medical staff, as the treatment may not be appropriate for you: Actinic (solar) keratosis; active acne; collagen vascular disease or cardiac abnormalities; diabetes; eczema, psoriasis and other chronic conditions in the treatment area or on other areas of the body; immunosuppressive therapy; history of contact dermatitis; raised moles in the treatment area; rosacea; active bacterial or fungal infection; active viral herpes simplex infections (such as cold sores); warts; keloid scars; patients on anticoagulants (blood thinners); scars and stretch marks less than one year old; scleroderma; and wound-healing deficiencies, inform your provider or med staff at the spa if you have or have had any of these conditions. 

Are there any reason why I should NOT receive a Micorneedling treatment? 

• If you have active skin cancer in the treatment areas.
• If you have open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area
• If you have allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics
• If you have a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction
• If you are pregnant or nursing
• If you are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotertinoin (such as Accutane)
• If you have any other medical condition contraindicate by the physician. 

• Call the spa immediately if you experience:  Signs of infection such as redness, warmth, itching, or pus formation. This would happen within a day or two after treatment. (This is the reason your skin needs to remain free from germs/dirt. Pillow cases should be changed, hands washed prior to touching face, etc) 
• If you have an allergic reaction. This is rare but can consist of severe contact dermatitis (rash) or itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing. (Call 911 first then notify spa when you are able) The risk is increased for individuals with asthma and/or a history of hives and itching. 

• Depending on the size of the area the treatment costs $250 - $350 per treatment.
